The 070 is a multidimensional puzzle designed to not only fit your feet, but also neatly fit together to create minimal production waste.
The 070 is the first shoe in the New Balance Eco-prefer Collection. The 070 is unique in that it was designed from day one to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Featuring both environmentally preferred materials, as well as a unique design which allows for minimal waste. The outsole features rice husks within the outsole, that reduces the amount of rubber used in the production of the shoe, and fills it with rice husks instead. Water-based adhesives are used in the construction of the upper with the midsole.
The upper materials use a combination of recycled polyester and natural materials. The upper is designed so that everything has a symmetrical opposite. This was done to minimize waste as much as possible when cutting the material for the shoes, and throwing away as little waste as possible.

Runner's World Awards: Best Update To The 875
|
|
The 875 trail runner delivers excellent all-weather traction by using outsole lugs made from both hard and sticky rubber spaced far enough apart that they don't get clogged with mud or slush. While the shoe does best on trails, some testers were surprised how well it did on pavement. New Balance improved the fit of the upper by adding overlays that embrace the foot more securely. Yet, even with the additional material, the 875 managed to lose half an ounce. Recommended for runners who run on wet, sloppy trails or who are in need of top-notch traction and an excellent fit.
Why They Rock:
-
Lockdown Liner integrates the shoes lacing and liner for a better fit and more mid-foot support
-
Full length ABZORB Strobel board provides premium cushioning and shock absorption
-
The Rock Stop plate runs from mid-foot to forefoot creating mid-foot stability and wraps up on the toe to protect the foot from impact with rocks, roots, and other trail hazards
-
A combination of solid and sticky rubber ensures exceptional ground contact and traction, while an N-durance outsole ensures long-wearing durability.
-
SURE LACE laces keep the shoes from coming untied mid-run
-
Lightning Dry lining provides moisture management
-
A combination of solid and sticky rubber ensures exceptional ground contact and traction, while wide tread spacing prevents debris clogs
-
N-durance outsole ensures longwearing durability
The 875's are great all-around trail shoes. Whether you’re a hard-core trail runner, a climber looking for approach shoes, or just want some light hikers, the 875’s are tough enough to slog through the wet spring weather and light and ventilated enough to breeze through the hottest summer hikes.
